It is very close at the top of the table, with both Pete Marsh and Pete Fletcher having only two species between them, leaving the following group with some catching up to do. Pete Marsh still needed some of the seabirds at the end of the month, but had benefited from finding a Crossbill which dropped down for a quick drink on the Industrial Estate. Quite a few people hadn't connected with the elusive Little Stints at Leighton, with Jean Roberts yet to make contact with any of the Leighton Ospreys (until 8th September!). Andrew McCafferty's best birds over the period were Spoonbill and Little Egret. My own best birds were Curlew Sandpiper and Pectoral Sandpiper both on the E.M. Pools. Howard Elliot 's highlights were outside the area, with a visit to Spurn for Booted and Greenish Warbler.
My local birds page on the Reality League site is updated, whenever possible on a daily basis with local sitings and the address is www.realityleague.freeserve.co.uk/page2 (or via the LDBWS website). Contributions to this are always appreciated as local news doesn't always filter through to the pager and other services. I can be contacted on 32020/39556 or e-mail john@whalleyroad.screaming.net.
