Thanks to all those observers who have sent in records, and hopefully this will be a reminder to those who have not yet done so.

The pattern of increase over recent years is starting to emerge. The only area where I have worked out the population is in SD 47. Here in the woodlands and crags of the Silverdale /Arnside area, I have received records of 18 pairs of Buzzards and probably 4 pairs of Ravens. Other areas appear not to have quite as high a population.

However a good population of buzzards is building up in SD 57 from east of the Motorway to Kirkby Lonsdale. Reports from Phil Holland, Linda Renshaw, Brian Hugo and Mack & Sheila Cooper suggest an increasing population. Buzzards are moving into the farmland to the south of Lancaster. John Chadwick reported a nest (unfortunately not successful) from Conderside.

I have had two reports of buzzards 'mobbing' people when near their nest. The one near Over Kellet was so threatening that some people stopped walking in the wood! On Warton Crag one bird seemed to wait until your back was turned, then swooped down only 4-5 ft above your head, it would then perch on a tree 'mewing' continually.

Ravens are being widely reported but they are much more difficult to pin down, there are reports of a move away from old quarries as nest sites to tree nesting which makes location much more difficult.

Any further reports are very much welcome from the period March to June.
