INITIAL RESULTS OF LDBWS YELLOWHAMMER SURVEY
Sept.
2003 |
The tetrads in which Yellowhammers were recorded in the Society Atlas or the County Atlas in the 1990s were surveyed by volunteers. The aim is to obtain a good picture of the Yellowhammer distribution in 2003. The full results are not yet in. The initial impression is that they are now only breeding in one small part of our recording area.
This is between Holme Park and Hutton Roof where there appears to be up to a dozen males.
In winter there are reports of up to twenty Yellowhammers at a feeding site in the neighbourhood. This feeding may be crucial to the survival of this remnant population.
IF YOU SAW YELLOWHAMMERS IN THE BREEDING SEASON PLEASE GIVE THE RECORDS TO PETE CROOKS OR BRIAN TOWNSON
