4+ north of Nossob 16/2 on night drive.
Striped Mouse Rhabdomys pumilio
2 Olifants Bay, Cape NR, 2 Bontebok NR 23/2.
Brant's Whistling Rat Parotomys brantsii
1 near Twee Rivieren 15/2, 1 near Mata Mata 19/2.
Bateared Fox Otocyon megalotis
2 north of Nossob on night drive.
Black-backed Jackal Canis mesomelas
Common Kalahari NP, where now tame in camps and picnic areas. Wonderful, intelligent
creatures,
park authorities ask visitors not to feed them for
obvious reasons. Don't leave shoes outside chalet overnight !

2 Augrabies Falls NP 11/2.
Yellow Mongoose Cynictis penicillata
1 Twee Rivieren 14/2, 1 northern 'dune road' 18/2, 1 farmland loops, Overberg
23/2 and 24/2.
Suricate [Meerkat] Suricata suricatta
3 Bedinkt waterhole, north of Nossob 16/2, 17/2.
Spotted Hyaena Crocuta crocuta
1 south of Nossob 15/2.
Caracal Caracal caracal
1 just north of Nossob 16/2, on night drive.
Cheetah Acinonyx jubatus
2 [ a male and a female ] Rooikop waterhole 16/2.
Lion Panthera leo
3 females outside Nossob camp 15/2, 4 females there 16/2, 6 inc. one [probably
immature] male just north of Nossob 17/2,
8 inc. one male Dalkeith waterhole 18/2.
Rock Dassie Procavia capensis
Common all rocky, mountainous areas, particularly Cape peninsula, Augrabies,
etc.
Cape Mountain Zebra Equus zebra
20+ Karoo NP 20/2, 10+ Bontebok NP 23/2.
Giraffe Giraffa camelopardalis
6 south of Mata-Mata 18/2, 8 near Dalkeith waterhole 19/2. First introduced
1990 with 8 relocated from Etosha NP, Namibia. Population now over 30; they
favour the different acacia species seen around Craig Lockhart area.
Eland Taurotragus oryx
12+ Karoo NP 20/2. Re-introduced here.
Bushbuck Tragelaphus scriptus
1 female Grootvadersbosch NR 24/2.
Gemsbok Oryx gazella
Very common along riverbeds of the Kgalagadi NP.
Mountain Reedbuck Redunca arundinum
1 male and 1 female Karoo NP 20/2.
Grey Rhebok Pelea capreolus
3 Silwerstroomstrand 6/2, c8 Bontebok NP 23/2.
Blue Wilderbeest Connochaetes taurinus
Common along riverbeds of the Kgalagadi NP.
Red Haartebeest Alcelaphus buselaphus
Fairly common around Nossob and northwards. 1 Karoo NP 20/2 [introduced],
1 Bontebok NP 23/2 [introduced].
Bontebok Damaliscus dorcas
6 Buffels Bay 3/2, 6 Koeberg NR 6/2 , common Bontebok NP 23/2 and De Hoop
NR 25/2. Bontebok, the Cape and De Hoop hold the largest numbers of this magnificent
antelope; at Bontebok NP numbers were down to 17 individuals when the park
was founded in 1931. Totally introduced Koeberg NR.
Springbok Antidorcas marsuplialis
Truly native only in the Kgalagadi NP, where the most common antelope, but
widespread virtually everywhere north of Cape Town, where introduced to farms
and game reserves and an important source of venison.
Klipspringer Oreotragus oreotragus
4 Augrabies Falls NP 11/2, 2 north of Pofadder 12/2, 5+ Karoo NP 20/2.
Steenbok Raphicerus campestris
1 male West Coast NP 6/2, 2 Tanqua Karoo 8/2, 2 females near Nossob 16/2,
fairly common northern 'dune road' Kgalagadi NP 18/2.
Cape Grysbok Raphicerus melanotis
2 [pair] Sir Lowry's Pass, Cape Town, 26/2.
Risso's Dolphin Grampus griseus
3+ on Simon's Town pelagic, 28/2.
Cape Fur Seal Arctocephalus pusillus
Very common around Cape peninsula coast.

1 north of Twee Rivieren 15/2, 2 near Nossob 15/2.
Angulate Tortoise Chersina angulata
8+ Cape peninsula 3/2, 4+ Bontebok NP 23/2.
Cape Cobra Naja nivea
2 south of Nossob 15/2, 1 Bontebok NP 23/2.
Cape Flat Lizard Platysaurus capensis
Very common Augrabies Falls NP.
Barking Gecko Ptenopus garrulous
1 near Nossob on night drive 16/2.
Giant Ground Gecko Chondrodactylus angulifer
1 near Nossob on night drive 16/2.
African Monarch butterfly
Common throughout, especially in the Kgalagadi NP.
